Yes, my favorite author will visit Manila and will be holding a series of book signings Fully Booked branches from July 9-11. An opportunity for some of the books that I love to be signed by him! It was good of Fully Booked to bring him here and connect him with his Filipino fans. His best-selling graphic novel The Sandman has been a favorite among collectors, fiction and fantasy fans of various ages. I myself believe that reading this graphic novel series changed me and moved me in different ways, into darkness and brooding at first, but with a finer view on existence, life and its’ meaning.

Anyways, I just want to share this rare image of my favorite pages in Brief Lives, the seventh compilation of the ten-volume graphic novel series The Sandman.(See image above) It depicts Destruction of the Endless telling his two siblings, Delirium and Dream, the following lines:

I like the stars. It’s the illusion of permanence, I think. I mean, they’re always flaring up and caving in and going out.

But from here, I can pretend.

I can pretend things last. I can pretend that lives last longer than moments.

Gods come and Gods go. Mortals flicker and flash and fade.

World’s don’t last, and stars and galaxies are transient, fleeting things like fireflies and vanish into cold and dust.

But I can pretend.

This is the magic that is Neil Gaiman. Never fails to give me goose bumps everytime. The words and the art blending together to make me feel the meaning that I thought I had lost. If an embodiment of an idea can feel like this, and deal with this, I’m pretty sure that us, mere mortals can do too.
