POEMS

Not Yet

He sees it in slow motion,
Big piles of metal trusses,
Falling, crashing down.
Scenes of life flash briefly,
Like cars racing for the finish line,
Or shooting stars falling from the sky.
Laughter, tears and trials.
Birth, Puberty, Maturity.
Love. Goodbyes.
He whispers a prayer in his mind, and a silent thought,
“No, not yet!”
Silence.
A sickening crunch, then pain.
Then nothing.

* Dedicated to the victims of fallen billboards at the height of the typhoon.

Sandaang Araw

Kasama ka, ilang taon na.
Taon na may tinatago’t inililihim.
Minsa’y muntik na ilantad,
Katotohanang nagpupumilit mailahad.

Isang araw, sa wakas naibatid,
Mga sikreto kong napatid,
Mga nahimulmulang sinulid.
Nararamdaman ko sa iyo’y hinatid.

Sandaang araw na ang lumipas,
Walang nagbago, di pa humuhupas.
Lagablab ng damdamin kong wagas.
Pinagdarasal na di magwawakas.

Nananalangin pa,
Na tumagal ng sandaang araw pa.
