The first time we went here, Ann and I took an Amtrak train that brought us through California’s Central Valley – our adventure took us from the suburban San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, to Bakersfield California by bus, then a four hour train ride from Bakersfield to Merced, to surprise our niece Catherine as they spent their first Christmas here.
Since then, we’ve been a big fan of the Amtrak trains. It’s not cheap, but it’s a very comfortable ride. Power outlets for gadgets, free fast wi-fi, great vistas along the route – sure it’s slower than an airplane, but what better way to experience this vast state than to see its different personalities along the numerous stops it makes along the journey.
I think it’s one of the best ways to experience America, especially if time is not a problem.
